Regularly Offered Trainings

The Jacksonville Children’s Commission partners with experts to educate professional youth workers and families on current children’s issues with the latest evidence-based practice. The goal is to see that children from birth to age 18 receive high quality care so they can grow up to be socially, emotionally healthy adults.

Check out the trainings that are offered throughout the year:

Introduction to Mentoring: A 2 hour training workshop geared towards preparing first-time mentors for their relationship building experience. This workshop is offered in partnership with mentoring agencies across the First Coast.

Advanced Youth Development: A three part training collaborative to challenge the professional youth worker to dig deeper into the psychology of adult worldviews on youth development.

CPR/AED & First Aid: A 6 hour training course to prepare individuals to respond to emergencies at work, home, and in the community. Contact Norma Dorsett for more information (904) 992-3734.

Cultural Competency: Trainings and workshops that are focused on building cross-cultural understanding for community leaders in youth care, mental health services, law enforcement, crime prevention, education, and family strengthening. Hosted by Jacksonville System of Care.

Darkness to Light: Building a safer community by preventing child sexual abuse. A training session for childcare providers, teachers, case managers, law enforcement, and medical professionals to learn the facts, minimize opportunity, open conversation, recognize the signs, and how to react responsibly.

Early Learning: A series of classes offered to enhance the skills of child care providers and families. Learn new skills to enhance growth, learning, and fun! Hosted by the UF Extension Office of Family Sciences.

Financial Literacy: A series of workshops held to help individuals and families secure a happy future by learning tools to build generational wealth. Hosted by Wells Fargo educators.

Mental Health First Aid: Have you ever wondered what to do when someone you know is having an emotional crisis? One out of four people you meet has struggled with a mental health problem at some point. But there is hope. And it is you. Hosted by Jacksonville System of Care.

Parenting in the 21st Century: Workshops designed for parents and anyone who works with children. Topics range from navigating the education system, advocacy, homework help, local politics, and conflict resolution. Hosted by Duval County Public Schools parent Academy.

Teen Health & Wellness: A collaboration of workshops offered to train youth workers and supervisors to ultimately improve skills to prevent teen pregnancy and work around issues of teen sexuality. Hosted by NEFL Healthy Start Coalition.

Trauma-Informed Care: Workshops and trainings designed to educate professionals about adverse childhood experiences and its effect on child development and behavior management. A tool to assist professionals make informed decisions on child care methods.
